Bellingham routs Mount Baker in five-inning victory

Eight-run fifth frame powers Bayhawks to 10-0 win over Mountaineers

Bellingham baseball erupted for eight runs in the fifth inning and the Bayhawks run-ruled Mount Baker, 10-0, on Tuesday, March 26 at Bellingham High School.

The Bayhawks picked up runs on seven of its 11 at-bats in the bottom of the fifth inning, and a single by sophomore Erik Helfield that scored senior Owen Rasmussen delivered Bellingham’s 10th run to end the game.

Senior Joe Toof led Bellingham at the plate, finishing 3 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Fellow senior Jake Troost and Helfield each went 2-for-3 batting, and the pair combined for another two RBIs and three runs scored.

Rasmussen was impressive on the mound for the Bayhawks, pitching all five innings while allowing just one hit, no runs and one walk while striking out nine batters.

Sophomore Toga Tigilau had Mount Baker’s lone hit, finishing 1 for 1 on the night.

Next up for Bellingham (4-3, 2-1 Northwest Conference) is a road game at Meridian (4-2, 1-2 NWC) at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 28. Mount Baker (0-5, 0-3 NWC) will host Sedro-Woolley (3-4, 0-2 NWC) at 4:30 p.m. on the same day.
