McFrugals, a Canadian discount general store, will open its first American location in Blaine.
The store will be located at 1733 H St. in Blaine in unit 500. McFrugals CEO Jason McDougall said they are still in the hiring and merchandising process, but expect the store to open in four to eight weeks.
McDougall said McFrugals is like a general store, but at discounted prices.
McFrugals has toys, stationery, clothing — “you name it,” McDougall said. “It’s a variety and it’s going to look different every time someone goes in there.”
McFrugals currently has two locations in British Columbia — in Langley and Surrey — one location in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and one location in Edmonton, Alberta.
McDougall said expanding into Blaine made sense as the new location is close to their current distribution center in B.C.
“We are looking to do cross-border stuff,” he said. “The customer base knows us in Canada quite well so opening in Blaine seemed to be a natural progression.”
