Former Lynden Christian star guard and University of Montana women’s basketball player Libby Stump has transferred to Western Washington University, the team announced on social media.
Stump, a sophomore last season, was the 2022 1A state tournament MVP and Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association (WSGBCA) 1A Player of the Year. She was Montana’s first true freshman in 2022–23 to play a full season (30 games) and average 10 points per game since 2001–02.
She played five games in 2023–24 before suffering a season-ending knee injury on Dec. 6, 2023, against Loyola Marymount. Stump entered the transfer portal on March 28.
In 2022, Stump was immortalized in Whatcom County girls basketball history for her game-winning shot in overtime of the 1A state championship — knocking off in-county rival Nooksack Valley in the first of three straight title matchups between the two programs. She scored 35 points in the win.
Stump also helped bring LC a state title as a sophomore in 2019–20. The Lyncs lost the championship when Stump was a freshman in 2018–19.
Stump is joining two former LC teammates at Western: soon-to-be senior guard Riley Dykstra and sophomore guard Demi Dykstra.
