What you need to know about Sunday's multisport relay race

For those who will experience Ski to Sea for the first time, here are some basic facts to know:

What: It’s a multisport relay race, from Mount Baker to Bellingham Bay. This year, 500 teams are competing. 2024 is the 51st year of the race and it’s the first time the race has sold out since 2011.

When: All day on Sunday, May 26, with the first leg starting at 7:30 a.m.

Where: It begins at the Mt. Baker Ski Area. See the route here. The Mt. Baker Highway (542) will be closed from 7:15 to 11 a.m. between Canyon Creek Road in Glacier and Mt. Baker Lodge. No vehicles will be allowed to travel down the mountain until approximately 10:30 a.m.

The end: The race ends at the foot of Harris Avenue in Fairhaven. Thousands of people will be there and parking will be at a premium. Here are some tips on how to get there and more information about road closures.
