JESSE’S PICKS

Connection Jazz Series: Standards Trio
6:30–8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, FireHouse Arts and Events Center, 1314 Harris Ave.

Drummer Christian Casolary curates the monthly Connections Jazz Series at the FireHouse, featuring himself and some of the best jazz players in the region. This edition takes place on Monday, Sept. 2 and features Mike Allen on sax, Miles Black on piano and Jeff Johnson on bass.

Redshift, Unsheather, Disaster Queen and the Sheen
Friday, Sept. 6, Waterfront Tavern Seafood and Bar, 521 W. Holly St.

It’s great to see punk shows making a very occasional return to the Waterfront Tavern. The one on Friday, Sept. 6 features Redshift, Unsheather, Disaster Queen and the Sheen. The Sheen recently posted a few preview songs from their upcoming album and I’m very much looking forward to hearing the rest of that.

Margo Cilker
8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, The Wild Buffalo, 208 W. Holly St.

Margo Cilker writes sparse, unaffected country/folk songs that are inspired by the rural area of Eastern Washington where she lives and farms. Her sophomore album from last year, “Valley of Heart’s Delight,” features an all-star cast of the Portland Americana scene. She’ll be at the Wild Buffalo with her touring band on Friday, Sept. 6.

Mbrascatu
7–9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, New Prospect Theatre, 207 Prospect St.

Mbrascatu is a project built around the Italian-born, Portland-based singer-songwriter Andrea Algieri. Over the course of four albums, he’s created a unique style that blends Italian folk, American indie-rock and a range of other sounds, with his rich voice at the center. The whole band is playing at the New Prospect Theater on Sunday, Sept. 7.
