While some are sipping on pumpkin spice lattes and breaking out flannels in celebration of meteorological autumn, portions of Whatcom and Skagit counties will still feel summer weather over the next few days.
A heat advisory has been issued for both counties beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 and ending at 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, according to the National Weather Service.
Conditions are expected to be hot with temperatures in the 80s to low 90s during the day, according to the NWS.
Those who are sensitive to heat should be aware of any heat-related illnesses, especially if they don’t have access to effective cooling or adequate hydration.
People are reminded to drink plenty of fluids, including water, and take extra precautions if working or playing outside. Wear sunscreen, take breaks in the air conditioning and try to wear lightweight clothing.
If you notice anyone experiencing heat stroke, call 911.
There is also a fire weather watch in effect for portions of east Whatcom County in the North Cascades through Friday evening because of hot, dry and unstable conditions, according to the NWS.
