All northbound I-5 lanes shut down near Lakeway Drive

Injuries are serious but non-life threatening

Two separate collisions have blocked all northbound Interstate 5 lanes Wednesday, Sept. 4 near Lakeway Drive, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Traffic is currently being diverted to Lakeway Drive and there will be an extended closure, Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding said in an email.

One wreck is a one-car/semi-truck collision, where emergency medical personnel are working to extricate the semi-truck driver, as of 6 p.m. Wednesday. The semi-truck’s load shifted during the collision, causing it to slam forward into the cab area, Harding said.

The injuries are serious but non-life threatening at this time, she said.

“Now that the injuries are assessed, troopers on scene are requesting tows,” Harding said. “However, with a semi involved, this could still be an extended closure. The other collision the trooper advised was a three-car.”
