NICK’S PICKS

Girls soccer: Sehome at Bellingham
7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, Bellingham High School

Sehome and Bellingham were ranked in the top 10 last season and returned most of their key players. Sehome lost 1-0 against 3A Bellevue, one of the top teams in the state, in its season opener. Sehome only has two seniors on its roster: goalkeeper Clarice Hickey and midfielder Triya Mitchell.

Bellingham won its season opener 8-0 against Marysville-Getchell. The Bayhawks are a senior-heavy lineup aiming to reach state this season after falling short in districts last year when they lost to Cedarcrest and Lynden in a double-elimination bracket.

WWU men’s soccer vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills
7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, Harrington Field

Western men’s soccer has begun the season 1-0-1, including a victory against No. 18 Chico State 1-0 on Sept. 5. The Vikings will play the Toros to finish a four-game homestand. Although the Vikings had a rusty start in their opening week, they have made late pushes in each match to remain undefeated.

Mount Baker Hill Climb
8 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, Snowater Road

The Mount Baker Hill Climb is not an easy journey but it is known as one of the most scenic paved roads in the country. Cyclists will ascend 4,462 feet from Chair 9 in Glacier to Artist Point in 22 miles. The top-three finishers in each division will receive a custom medal. If interested, the ride costs $90.
