Burlington Edison’s Lexie Mason is one of the top volleyball players in the state. The 6-foot-2 senior has had a massive impact on the Tigers’ success over the last few seasons.
“It’s a big role and can be really tough,” Mason said. “Coming into senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how big of a role I would have on this team, but my teammates help me remain calm and we are just good at encouraging each other.”
Mason is a three-time first-team Northwest Conference selection and second-team all-state selection. Off the court, Mason describes herself as easygoing and respectful. On the court, she has earned these honors because she is fierce, driven, powerful and knows where to locate the ball.
Mason began playing volleyball in sixth grade because her older sister, Annika Mason, competed. The two sisters would compete alongside each other before Annika began playing at Everett Community College in fall 2023.
Since starting volleyball in middle school, Mason has grown mentally tougher.
“I was out for four months from an injury and coming back, I was really scared,” Mason said. “I had encouraging teammates help me get back to where I am at.”
Mason has over 1,500 kills in her high school career, the most in Burlington-Edison history. She also has over 1,000 digs, 200 blocks and 150 aces. She has had several games this season with over 20 kills in the match, including a 3-2 win over Sehome with 21 kills and 21 digs.
Despite having an impressive resume, Mason wants to continue honing her skills. “I want to try new things and keep getting better,” she said.
She is also looking to either play beach or indoor volleyball in college. However, she wants to secure a state title before finishing her career as a Tiger.
“Since we are an all-veteran team, we have been working so hard and I know we can do it,” Mason said.
