WWU student dies after apparent fall from a dorm

No foul play suspected; supports available to students and staff

Update: At 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, Western announced that a second student had been found dead on campus, in another student residence. The president said the deaths do not appear to be connected.

A Western Washington University student died last night after an apparent fall from an on-campus residence building, the university confirmed Thursday, Oct. 10.

Law enforcement is examining the incident, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Nash Hall, and believe there are no indications of foul play nor danger to the broader community. Western said in a news release that the student’s family has been notified.

“I am heartbroken to learn that we have lost one of our students,” President Sabah Randhawa said in the release.

“On behalf of the WWU community, our hearts go out to the students’ family, friends, and classmates. We understand that this news is hard to take in, and we encourage anyone who needs support to use the resources available through the university,” Randhawa said.

Students can seek support 24/7 through the WWU Counseling and Wellness Center by contacting 360-650-3164. Employees can access support through the Employee Assistance Program at 877-313-4455.
