Football forecast: Cross-town rivals Bellingham and Sehome face off

The Mariners are looking to remain in the state playoff race

By Nick Zeller-Singh Sports Reporter

WECU/CDN Game of the Week: Sehome at Bellingham

When: Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., Civic Stadium

Sehome record: 4-2

Bellingham record: 1-5

Final prediction: Sehome 35-7

Sehome was one play away from upsetting the Lynden Lions a couple weeks ago and sitting near the top of the conference standings. Instead, the Mariners are two games out of first place and a top-15 team in the 2A classification. Sehome has been relying on playmakers in open space.

Bellingham returned to the NWC this season after playing an independent schedule the last few years. Bellingham has not received a warm welcome, going 0-4 in conference play and scoring an average of 12 points per game.

Sehome player to watch: WR/DB Andre Watson, senior

Watson has over 500 receiving yards this season. In the one-point loss to Lynden, he had 11 receptions for 170 yards and a touchdown. Besides being a matchup nightmare on offense, Watson can lock down any wide receiver when he is playing defense.

Bellingham player to watch: WR Joe Harward, junior

Harward is the Bayhawks top option for offensive production. He broke the school record for yards per reception (41.8) a few weeks ago and is ranked fifth in Whatcom County for receiving yards with over 300.
