Football forecast: Blaine and Mount Baker seek first conference win

Star running backs will highlight showdown between Mountaineers, Borderites

WECU/CDN Game of the Week: Blaine at Mount Baker

When: Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

Blaine record: 5-2

Mount Baker record: 4-3

Final prediction: Blaine 21-7

Blaine and Mount Baker were successful early in the season against non-conference opponents. However, both teams have yet to win a game against a 1A Northwest Conference squad. As the season comes to an end, neither team is fighting for a postseason bid, only bragging rights.

The Borderites average 30 points per game and allow nearly 20 while Mount Baker averages almost 30 points and allows nearly 17 points. 

Blaine player to watch: RB Jaiden Paez, senior

Paez is one of the top rushers in Whatcom County, rushing for 1,173 yards this season. Paez finished last game with 23 rushes for 316 yards and four touchdowns. Paez is responsible for 114 points this season. 

Mount Baker player to watch: RB/OLB Brady Bruland, senior

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound running back is responsible for 60 points this season. Bruland is a quick and explosive player who proved his speed in the season’s fifth week with an 89-yard kick return for a touchdown.
