A Bellingham man is dead after a crash on Interstate 5 near the Northwest Avenue exit overnight.
Around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, the man was riding a red 2006 Honda CBR600 motorcycle northbound on I-5 near MP257, according to the Washington State Patrol. At Northwest Avenue, he was unable to negotiate the curve and left the road.
The motorcycle struck the left shoulder barrier and came to rest against the cable barrier, according to WSP. The motorcyclist was ejected into the northbound lane.
The man was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center where he was declared dead, according to WSP. He was wearing a helmet.
WSP is investigating if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
All lanes of I-5 at the northbound Northwest Avenue exit as well as the left southbound lane of I-5 were blocked for five hours. The road reopened just before 6 a.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
