ANACORTES — It is not every football game where fans get to see nearly 90 points scored, especially one team scoring nearly 80 of those points. However, Anacortes continued its state title defense with a 77-12 home victory against Foster in a 2A state play-in game Friday, Nov. 8.

The round of 32 victory puts the Seahawks in the 16-team state bracket, with seedings and matchups to be announced Sunday, Nov. 10. The Seahawks will likely host their first-round game Friday, Nov. 15 or Saturday, Nov. 16.

“We are playing good, healthy football,” Anacortes coach Justin Portz said. “We haven’t been healthy most of the season and we are getting guys back and we know we are fast.”

The Seahawks showcased their speed with five touchdowns in the first quarter. Rylin Lang started with a 30-yard jet sweep touchdown in the first two minutes. On the following drive, Brady Beaner, who started at quarterback, carried the ball 58 yards. Brock Beaner scored on a 40-yard carry on the next play to make it 14-0.

Brady started at quarterback due to Ryan Harrington suiting up for his first game in about a month since an injury. Brady finished 10-for-12 with 164 yards and one passing touchdown. He also rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

“We will see about our quarterbacks because we have options,” Portz said. “ Since we were forced into that situation and know what Brady can do and Ryan has other things he can do, it is a lot for teams to prepare for. I like it that way.”

The following three touchdowns were Brock’s 7- and 10-yard touchdown carries and Micah Dicison’s 35-yard reception.

In the second quarter, Lang scored on a 10-yard screen pass, Brock scored a 9-yard carry and 37-yard catch, Luca Moore scored on a 20-reverse and Brady on a 1-yard carry.

Foster also scored on a 48-yard pass down the left sideline to make it 68-6 at halftime.

“Ever since our loss, our defense has been practicing hard and we don’t want to lose again,” Brady said. “We want to have zero points on the board.”

Anacortes allowed 49 total yards in the first half. In the second half, the backups came in for both teams. Foster scored on its first possession and Anacortes’ Wesley Green scored on a 13-yard carry. Riley Walgamott ended the scoring display with a 25-yard field goal with about a minute remaining.

“Every team is going to gun us down and put a target on our back,” Brady said. “Pressure is a privilege.”
