The cast of “Sugar Does Broadway” rehearsed the upcoming show at Mount Baker Theatre on Thursday night, March 14. The cabaret, which takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, is a collection of Broadway music brought to life by Brie Mueller, co-creator of American Theater Northwest, a nonprofit that hosts the show.
The cabaret’s last showing was in October 2023 on a smaller stage. Saturday’s single show will be on Mount Baker Theatre’s main stage, and might look a bit different than what returning fans are used to.
“I’m looking forward to people seeing a completely different show than they’re used to seeing in ‘Sugar’,” Mueller said, adding that this show is “a little bit more PG,” in the hopes that the audience will grow in size and age range.
“I’ve sort of created a Broadway musical in my mind,” Meuller, 47, said. The show includes set pieces and costumes, but Mueller said she wishes they could do more.
“Theater costs a lot of money and I think it’s something people don’t understand,” she said.
“Sugar Does Broadway” can be seen at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St. Tickets start at $35. Info: sugartheshow.com or mountbakertheatre.com.
