On Oct. 19, Seattle had the worst air quality in the world with a reading of 236 AQI out of a list of other major cities compiled by IQAir. Bellingham clocked in at 288 AQI.

Whatcom County Public Health recommended staying inside or wearing a high-quality mask, like an N95, outside. Cloth masks and surgical masks do not filter out the particles in wildfire smoke.
