Sehome High School Principal Sonia Cole sent a letter to parents asking for their “trust” in the school as it investigates a hazing incident that resulted in the cancellation of a Sept. 16 football game against Sedro-Woolley.
Cole acknowledged in the letter the school had learned of behavior that violated harassment, intimidation and bullying policies and the athletic code of conduct, but said some of the rumors being spread on social media about what took place are “untrue and unhelpful.”
She asked parents to direct questions to her, though she can’t share a lot due to privacy laws. When contacted by Cascadia Daily News, Cole declined to comment.
“I ask for your trust that my staff and I are working through a difficult situation with care and integrity,” Cole said in the letter.
The school has been working with the football team and Coach Kevin Beason to address the situation since Monday, Cole said, and games are continuing as scheduled. This Friday, Sehome faces Burlington-Edison at home.
