A Blaine School Board candidate was arrested June 2 on suspicion of child rape, assault and possession of a controlled substance.
Tana Perkins Reneau, 51, was booked into the Whatcom County Jail with a bail of $500,000, the Northern Light first reported. Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) detectives made the arrest following a report to Child Protective Services.
Reneau is charged with rape of a child in the first degree, second degree and third degree, and four counts of assault of a child in the second degree, WCSO spokesperson Deb Slater said in an email. Reneau knew all the children.
Additionally, she received a charge for possession of a controlled substance, after she was found with a vial of prescription pills, Slater said. The pills did not belong to her and are a Schedule V controlled substance.
Reneau, a former teacher, filed for Blaine School Board Director of District 2 to run in the August primary. She ran for the same position in 2019. She worked for more than a decade as a teacher and principal in the Kennewick School District, according to her LinkedIn.
Reneau appeared in the Whatcom County Superior Court on June 5.
